I had 4 documents copied twice and certified at a cost of ?10 from
a local solicitor, it only took about 10 minutes. Suggest
shopping around.

We were asked why we needed the copies, so I think they saw more moneyin
the future, re house sale etc if they were nice to us!!!

As was mentioned before get in touch with your local Magistrates Court
as they usually do them for free.
I took ours to our local Magistrates and they were very good, didn't
take offence to me going in with so many documents. Just make sure you
ring and make an appointment first and don't just turn up.

the first solicitor i rang wanted to charge me ?270 for 60 copies. rang
around and went to a gent down the road who did them for ?25!
just used him again to do another half a dozen and he did them
for a tenner.
you could go down to the magistrates and ask for a JP, -they'll do
them for free.
best of luck,
jamie

Go to your local magistrates court not only will they do it for free but
will get to see all sorts of interesting people in the waiting room.
Your GP can also certify documents for you if you ask them nicely.

There are only three options in the UK that are generally acceptable to
DIMIA and skill assessing authorities: Solicitor, JP, or Notary Public.
Use a GP, bank manager, teacher, accountant, local councillor etc - and
you'll likely find they refuse to accept it. There is more flexibility
if the certification is done by someone in Australia (longer list of
acceptable people), but not overseas.

Hi there and holy cr*p. I've used my GP and it cost us nothing as we've
known him a long time. You've got me panicing now that it won't be
accepted. However it was accepted for TRA.

Using anything other than a solicitor/JP/notary to certify documents in
the UK is taking pot luck. It might be accepted by DIMIA - then again
it might not.

You can get them done by the Australian Embassy in London for about ?10
per document. We used them as the local solicitors were VERY expensive.

Have just scoured the internet and found a couple of sites that say GPs
and dentists are classed as notary public members, so now I'm not
panicing so much, just got all my fingers crossed.

A bottle of wine and a winning smile.....and it took 2 hrs. I think I
kind of mislead them...saying i had a "few" copies to do which they said
they would do for free,..then turned up with two folders worth.
Guess I was lucky....

We got a local councillor (who was also a JP) to do ours. I gave him a
bottle of scotch (MP's are always up for drop or two) for our skills
assessment and then when we had to get him to certify the visa app
stuff, i gave him two for the inconvenience of there being so many.
Which then meant I could go back when I was asked for another couple of
docs and he'll sign any others should they be needed.
A few years ago my brother was charged something like ?25 per document
by a solicitor. Who say's they're not sharks!!

Hi
We used the solicitor that we had to do our mortgage and we got them
done for FREE!!!!! When I was told on the phone when making the
appointment I nearly fell off my chair. Although when I went back with
the QNC application form she had to charge me a fiver cos it was a sworn
document.
Needless to say I have bought our solicitor a box of choccies for when
the docs come back cos we will need the police checks etc cerrtifying
for the visa application.
Advice is to shop around and just ask nicely......
Don't use a GP they do return them it has been said before.
And STEPHEN stop shouting... take your caps lock off matie.
Cheers
Good Luck
