Have you tried their website? Go to www.police.uk and search for
your force.

Thanks for the link to the s.yorks police web site..  I found a
downloadable form on there, but they call it a "SA1 SUBJECT ACCESS" form
and make no mention of a "PCC" form.. Are they the same.???

Found a reason on the West Yorks website
"The subject Access form does not provide you with a Certificate of Good
Conduct or a Police Clearance Cert. However in our experiance foreign
embassies will accept a SUBJECT ACCESS reply in the absence of such a
facility in the UK."

Thats what you need, the subject access form. Download that one and fill
it in and you'll be fine (trust me, I used to do the job!!) :)

That's the right form, we downloaded it and sent it last week.  We got
an acknowledgement/receipt back within a couple of days informing us
that the application will be processed from New Scotland Yard and gave
us a date that we should receive our check by.

How long do these type of checks usually take to be processed?

Kind Regards,
Mark

1.  They are legally obliged to respond within 40 days.
2.  For Australia, police checks are normally valid for 12 months.

Hi Jeremy, I sent my police form off about a week or so before xmas &
hadn't received a reply by last week so I called them up & they say they
sent it out on Jan 5th to my correct address.  I told them I hadn't
received it so they said they'd look in to it.  I'm still waiting, what
do you suggest I do?

I don't know if it makes a difference but my name is incredibly common.

We got our checks back within 9 days (including the day we posted it) so
we did well really considering our acknowledgement said it may take up
to 40 days to process.

Couldn't tell you if they have an expiry date, just sent ours straight
off to our Agent.

The police do not do credit checks, the form is for checking criminal
records. The idea of 10 years of addresses is to help them out - if they
find someone with a similar name to youes they can use the addresses for
elimination purposes.

You wouldn't believe how much the heart sinks when you get a form when a
name like that on it!!!
Checking the Esmerelda Dingbats of this world is far more enjoyable!!
(no offence to any John Smiths out there, but there are several thousand
of them on the compiter and it makes for a very long morning!!!)

If I get my Police checks done now then when I put in my application in
11 months time they will be still valid?
cheers Lace :)

I'm guessing here, based on your "location" - if you come under Greater
Manchester police you need this link
http://www.gmp.police.uk/foi/data_protection/subject_access.asp

and it looks like their form is not online - so I don't know the number,
as each force has its own. Its a Subject Access check under the Data
Protection Act, and it will say that they are going to check the Police
National Computer records - but yes, 2 forms of ID is usual, and ?10.

They will be valid for 12 months, BUT your entry date is usually linked
to your police check. so you usually only have 12 months to enter from
the date of the check.

If you're not in Manchester, let me know!!

Hi Pollyanna,
I am in Manchester. I was going to get the police checks early and the
Medicals with it. I was going to get the number off the form when it
comes back with the recipt then I was going to front load the stuff.
I am just trying to get everything in the pipe line so I miss nothing
(it's called panicking lol).
cheers for that. If they don't have a form I will go to the police
station and get one.
thanks Lace :)
