My husband is a self employed plumber, I do his tax returns, but all
paperwork prior to Oct 1999 was taken as he went bankrupt.  How do we
prove his experience etc.  He has been registered with CORGI since then
and I am sure we can prove this, but is it enough?

We are in the process of doing our skills assessment for the TRA, my
hubbie is a bricklayer and is also self employed.

Because he is self employed as Labour only by subbies we have obtained
detailed references from them and also are in the process of doing a
statoury declaration explaining that we have no statements from
suppliers & clients ect because he is labour only.

I know that if you are self employed the TRA want lots & lots of
information from Inland Rev, clients, suppliers ect.

I decided to go with an agent to do our skills assessment because there
are lots of grey areas in what the TRA require.I have also heard many
people say on this forum that if you are self employed it may be best if
you use an agent. At least you know that you wont be missing any
information.

We are using George Lombard and he uses Glenn Newton to do the skills
assessment.

Hope this helps & Good Luck

Best of luck with your application Surfer chick. We opted not to use an
agent when applying for the TRA and had a positive deeming date. Yes
they do wants lots of info.

I have PM`d you with details of what i included in my app.

Thanks so much that's really helped.  We're going to New Zealand, so
we're waiting to see what the new Category is going to be like at the
end of the year.  It should be in our favour, we are one point short,
but as it stand at the moment you have to have a confirmed job.  This is
only short term till the new Category takes over though I believe.
Looking at the Work Visa we could go out on that as it includes the Self
Employed, unless I have that wrong.  But one way or another I can't see
us having any real problems except with my medical.

Hi all

I think NZIS work visa policy specifically excludes self employment if
you're on a work visa.

The confusion often comes from definition of who you work for. I think
for work visa the job must be from a business that you have no
influence over.

I think that also applies on work to residence.

If you get PR straight away, now worries.

Anyone else with comment?

Good luck

I have a job offer in nz and wonder is  it best to wait untill I am
there to apply for residency or start now,and as I work for a contract
agency I will have a lot of trouble getting referances and being precise
on employmentv dates as sometimes my work only lasts for a few months so
any ideas on the best way to  go about it.
