Hi there,
Im hoping someone has been in a similar position to what we are in.
We are just back from Melbourne as we were doing a reckkie - had a
fantastic time and has confirmed even more so that we are doing the
right thing!
Whilst we were out there my husband was asked to go to an interview for
a company that he works for in the Uk but for the Oz branch.
We are applying under a Skilled Independant visa as I am a graphic
designer. It looks like they are going to offer him the job but they
want him to start ASAP and we are awaiting Canadian police checks that
may take up to July for us to get them!!
So what i want to know is has anyone else maybe used a business visa
to get them out temporarily (possibly for 3 months or more) then leave
the country and re-enter till our skilled visa comes through?? Is it
ok to do this?
It would mean him going out early whilst i await the visas, sell the
house etc while he gets settled in Oz. It would seem crazy to let this
opportunity of him getting a job pass by just cause we are awaitng the
c. police checks (which will be clear!!)
If anyone has any ideas or has been in a similar position
please let me know it its ok to do this?
Thanks
Susan

Just a thought....What would happen if he didn't enjoy the job once he
got out there???
With a PR visa (Skilled Independant) you are not restricted by your job.
Personally I would stick to what you are doing and ask the prospective
employer to wait a while, you could always make up an excuse why.
Good luck in your decision making.

not sure what's happening there....trying to do too many things at once,
as per usual.

not sure i explained myself properly...
we definately want to still remain with the skilled ind. visa - but as
our canadian police checks are delaying our application.
We want to know if it is ok for him to go out on a temp. business visa
to tide him over till we get our skilled ind. visa through?
Im sure this must have happened to someone else???
It would be such a shame for him to lose this job opportunity just cause
of a delayed police check (which will be clear!!)

I would suggest advice from an agent, so that one visa doesn't conflict
with the other. Sounds too complex for general advice.

I'm sure i've read that one will cancel out the other. If the firm want
him they will understand if he explains what the delay is. Just tell
them Canada are delaying things.
Jeremy et al will know for sure.
