Does anyone know if there is any point in lodging an application for
Australian skilled residency when you can only make the pool mark? Has
anyone heard of anyone gaining a visa after falling into the "pool"?

I currently can't get anymore than 110 and the pass mark is 120 :-(

The other option is sponsorship, but when you are outside of Oz, all the
(IT) agencies don't seem to want to know, unless I'm asking them the wrong
questions!

Many Thanks

Non-employer based options include:

1.  STNI visa, but only some IT specialisms are eligible
2.  SIR visa, but it may be harder to get sponsorship from South
Australia if you're in IT.  The other participating states, eg
Tasmania, may be more flexible.  And you've still got hoops to go
through in order to get permanent residence.

Presumably you've no Australian relative to sponsor you.

How easy it is to find an employer is going to depend on your
specialism.

Have you considered New Zealand or Canada as alternatives (depending on
youyr circumstances)?

Jeremy,

I thought Nz is harder than Oz. They have something called as a
comparable labour market thingee. Which is from what i think they
consider only work experience gained in the listed countries. Correct me
if i'm wrong pls.

I believe this is the case - but if you meet this requirement (eg, if
you're from the UK, US, Canada etc) then NZ may be 'easier'.
