I'm embarrassed to be saying this, but about six years ago I went to my
doctor a few times for help with amphetamine dependency and was put on a
course of Prozac. Will my medical notes be taken into consideration when
applying for a visa, and could this work against me? Thanks in advance
for any soothing words!

When you have your meds, the panel doctor doesn't need or ask to see
your medical records.  There are loads of questions to fill out but I
can't remember what they all are.  You can download the form from the
AHC site and check but I wouldn't have thought you would have a
problem.  They don't appear to be over fussed by such things in the
past. If there is a box to tick, please be honest.  If anything happens
in the future, and it is found you lied, even a diddy bit, they might
not look too kindly.

Thanks for that. I'm surprised they're not intersted in seeing your
medical records! I'll try and dig out that form you speak of...

They are mainly concerned with illnesses that will prove expensive to
maintain in Aus - cancer, TB etc.  They also assume that you will tell
the truth and if anything shows up in the med and x-ray they will
request further investigation.

If there is a question about drug taking in the past, it may be worth
asking your doctor to write a letter detailing what, where, when, how
etc and how you have been drug free for the past xxx years.  May save
further examination which could possibly hold up the application.  But I
do think you will be ok with it.

Edit:  Here is the link to the form if you haven't found it:

Question 16 asks if you have ever been addicted to drugs or taken
illegal drugs.  If yes, answer honestly and then get a doctors letter to
cover you.

Many thanks for the link. I think you're right about answering
that question with an affirmative... but it would be very nerve-
wracking to do so.
