Hello,

I've not looked too much into this in the past, but  I'm getting to
the stage where I'm seriously looking into whether I could get my
residency in Australia.

My circ's are that I'm on a 457 visa and have been for about 15-18
months now.  From the UK, 28yrs old, single.  I have been working in
the IT field as a Support Engineer for about 4 years now and I'm MCSE
& CCNA qualified (no degree).  My Brother is a resident by marriage
and lives in Sydney.

Can someone give me a gauge as to what my chances might be, what the
next step might be, how much it might cost etc...  I know each case is
individual, but ideas would be good.

p.s.  I heard once that you can put cash into a bond held by
Australian Immigration/Government for extra points, is this correct?

Thanks

Gareth.

Hi Gareth,

The place to start is the Department of Immigration website at
www.immi.gov.au where you should be downloading Booklet 6.  You also need to
look at the ACS website to see whether you qualify under their assessment
guidelines- see www.acs.org.au .  Essentially if you only have 4 years
experience in IT it won't be enough.  You will need six and the MCSE.
Everything from that point on can be sorted out, without a sponsor or a
statutory deposit, given your age and Australian work experience.

Cheers

George Lombard
