State Sponsorship for Skilled Migration - HELP!

Hello, my husband went to the expo in London yesterday, he is a
Carpenter Joiner and has a points score of 130 and got loads of info. He
went to the WA stand as that's where we're quite keen to go. He had a
really positive chat with the bloke there and he gave my hubby a
"Certificate of Western Australian Conditional State Sponsorship for
Skilled Migration" - it says on it that he has been assessed and
approved for Western Australian conditional State sponsorship for an
STNI skilled Visa.

He told him that it would help his visa application be 'pushed through
quicker' and it's a really good one to have. But I'm confused (not
difficult I know!)

It might be a stupid question but can anyone explain to me what this
means please? Pretty please?

Thanks everyone :)

I've not heard of this 'conditional STNI approval' before.  You probably
need to make a formal approval for STNI from WA before you can use this
for DIMIA.
http://www.migration.wa.gov.au

STNI basically exempts you from the points test, and DIMIA give
applications with STNI priority (they also give some priority to MODL
people).  Read the Skilled Migration Booklet.

For STNI (or Skill Matching) you need to commit to living for 2
years in WA.

Thanks Jeremy, seems no-one knows much about is as I've not had any
other responses. I've tried to make some sense of it from the website
but it's still quite unclear. I'll have to read the migration booklet
again see if it's any clearer.

The WA rep did say we would only have to stay in WA for 6 months, then
after that there's nothing they can do about it if you want to move. Not
that we're intending to move on though as that's where we want to be.

I'm a bit unsure on whether we get temporary or perm residency with the
STNI. On the WA Government paperwork they gave us it says these visas
provide permanent residency but I've read elsewhere that it's temporary.
I guess the WA paperwork has to be correct though.

Hi all

That's actually just a marketing doo-dad. I have spoken to WA earlier
about same thing for business migration and it's just something handed
out to encourage the migrant. It has no effect on DIMIA as it is not a
recognised part of the visa process. As such you won't find it mentioned
anywhere at DIMIA.

WA hand them out to "lock" people in and give them reassurance. If
that's all it does then it's still useful as migration has a lot of
inherent uncertainties to it.

Anyway, they want you!

Really that's shocking! They told us we'd need to send it off with our
visa application and that it would get to a certain point and then get
'pushed through' quickly. I'm quite disapointed it's just a meaningless
piece of paper :(

Is there any phone number on it that you can call to find out since as
this is the first Expo they've done it may be something new (maybe STNI
sponsorship?)

No just a website which I've looked at already. Can't understand why
they'd tell us we needed to send it off with our application for a visa
if it wasn't going to have any effect on the application.
