Hiya,

Just got all our police checks back today! ( needed 3 of them as I'd
moved around a bit )
Our Vetassess and ANMC Skills assessments are being sent off next week.
Anyone know if we should send the application in once the skills
assessment results are returned to us along with the other paperwork we
have? DIMIA told me not to have our medicals until they tell us to but
maybe having them done now that the police checks are back would be a
good idea.
What do you think?
Any advice apreciated as ever,
Cheers,
*pearly*
P.S. Spoke to my oncologist today who said my breast cancer will only go
against me in my application in that DIMIA could be quite
obstructive. He didn't say it would be a big knock-back and thought
that my profession would be a huge positive for my application.SOME
good news at least - hopefully.

It's really early to be getting any police checks or medicals. You will
have to wait a good few weeks for your assessment to come back, then
around 4 months for a request for your meds and PCC's.

Don't forget you have to validate 12 from the date on your Police
Clearance or Meds whichever is first. In this case it will be your
PCC's. Not to bad as they are only £10 each, but meds are rather more
than that.

Also it may be that you have to sign a health undertaking and arrive
in Oz 6 months from having your meds done. In this situation you will
have to do them again as they will be invalid before you even get
your request.

I know you want everything to be done now, we are all the same in that
respect, but I think in your circumstances you should really wait until
they have been requested.

Thanks for that Wendy.

How do you KNOW all of this stuff?????!!!!!!
We are hoping to go as soon as we get the big "ok" so I was hoping that
if I got everything done then the application would be in and they can
take their time deciding whether to let us in or not. ( I'm SURE they'll
take their time!! )
But,I will definately wait for them to tell me when to get our medicals
done.
So, if I wait until our skills assessments have been returned to us
before we send off our application ( minus meds ) would that be the
right way to go do you think?
Really sorry to ask you all of this but you seem to have "been there, got
the T-shirt".

Yes you will have to wait for your skills assessment to come back as you
will have to send it with your application. Get 2 or 3 copies done as
you may need it again later.

Frontloading your meds will only take a few weeks off the application,
but in your circumstances I would say not to get them done early. You
could however get all the reports you may need into your condition as
this will save you some time as you could then get the panel doctor to
send it all in together.

I only know this stuff because I am really nosey and read EVERY
thread :D.

Oh and I have no life :o

hi, i would agree with wendy. it is likely you will be category B for
the medicals giving you only 6 months to validate from the earliest of
PCC'S  or meds. i would get your skills assessment done then send off
the visa application with your PCC'S and book your meds for about 2
months after you have sent your visa apllication. you can always get new
PCC'S done later on if need be. make sure you you have every test
result/report etc regarding your condition to give to the panel doc as
this will save time. the fact that you are a nurse may have no bearing
on their decision, well at least it hasn't my case (see my earlier posts
as it's along story). i wish you all the luck in the world and hope
things work out for you. selina xxx

Wendy, whats this about if you are a B on your medicals you only have 6
months to validate visa I thought it was 12. Now I am panicking as did
police checks 6/10/05

Does everyone on application have to validate at same time.

Thanks

Helen

It's if you have a medical condition that needs monitoring. It's not
always the case that a B will get 6 months to validate, it depends on
what LCU think of the particular situation.

I'm not entirely sure if everyone gets 6 months or only the person with
the problem. I would presume its everyone, but only guessing.

The police checks are not too bad as they are only £10 each, it's more
of a hassle but not a big deal.

Also the CO will tell you if they require you to re-do PCC's.

A couple points - first you MUST WAIT until you get your skills
assessment back before you send in your application. A Skilled
Independent application is not valid without a skills assessment and
will be returned by DIMIA if you don't have one included in the
application. Second, I don't want to pry, but there are specific issues
with cancer which have been raised in the past on here. Specifically, I
think I remember that you need to be 5 years cancer free before DIMIA
will approve a visa. You should do a search on the forum for cancer
issues or perhaps post a specific thread asking for information about
cancer and it's impact on immigration. I think Jeremy (one of the agents
who posts here frequently) mentioned this cancer issue at one point.

Cheers,
Brian

PS: I agree with WendyC regarding the frontloading of medicals -
especially with a history of cancer there may be a good chance of
you only getting 6 months to validate, and it will likely take at
least that long for your visa to be granted.

Hi

Just for a bit of history on the OP, she has been in touch with Peter
Bollard and had a reply from him with regards to her cancer history.

Hi Brian,

As Wendy said I got in touch with Peter Bollard, and australian lawyer
specialising in health matters in relation to emmigration.
He said there was no such 5 year wait as such. The longer you are
without cancer the better when you apply ( By the time I get to Oz I'll
be 3 years since diagnosis )
So, bearing this positive news in mind, I hope other's are not put off
applying when they've heard about the so-called 5 year thing. I would
have been had I not looked into it further.
I also spoke to my oncologist yesterday who said that he knew of a woman
who was just 18 months post diagnosis, and she was accepted.
There's hope for us all!!! ;o)

I'm glad that this won't be a block for you then! Best of luck and I
hope your cancer is gone for good!

Just a point for Pearly, make sure you send it all to Adelaide and not
London ;-)

Good luck!

Happymum,

Does it all go off straight to Adelaide?? I thought you could choose to
send it to London? The medical form I have says "for those applying
through London"
I'm a long way off from sending my application in so better make sure I
send it to the right place,eh!!??

I also thought all 136 applications went to Adelaide.

You can opt for your visa to be evidenced (stamped with visa) in London.

Skilled applications go through ASPC (Adelaide Skilled Processing
Centre), and as far as I know embassy's only deal with
spouse/partner/fiance type visas usually. I know in the US you can't
send a skilled application to the embassy in Washington. I don't know
about the medical form thing, but maybe it's because in the case of
spouse/fiance visas they are usually front loaded so they do the
medicals in advance of applying. Up until last year there were not even
any forms available off the web which were usable for off-shore
applications. When we did ours we received the medical forms in the mail
from DIMIA, but that was in the "old" days of 2005! :-)

Cheers,
Brian
