Hi,

A quick question about the IELTS. Does my dad (69), who is coming as a
dependant, need to do the English Test? If so, it is a bummer, as he is
dyslexic, can write but no one can read what he writes and CANNOT spell
English. He has lived and worked with English since 1959. Originally from
Germany, now in South Africa.

Hi:

Everyone in your application over 18 who cannot prove the required
English level (functional level) needs to pay the 2nd installment. I
think there are no exceptions in this matter if you're not a passport
holder of a native English speaking country. One of my friend's mom who
was 70 paid for it when they were granted their visa.

depends on the CO, if you can provide school and work certifications
that the official language is english....the CO may waive the IELTS for
your dependent.....

the 2nd installment is available but it is cheaper to take your chances
with the IELTS

Hallo Fritz,

Keine Sorge.  Wenn Dein Vater nur ein Durchschnitt von 4,5 kriegt, alles
wird in Ordnung sein.  But of course as you've evidently lived in South
Africa for a long time, possibly you don't speak German :-).

An average of 4.5 is enough on the IELTS test, and if his oral
expression and comprehension is ok, then it shouldn't be a problem to
reach 4.5.  If he doesn't get to 4.5 then you'll have to pay the
second instalment, which for applications lodged in the last 12 months
is A$2690.

Cheers,

George Lombard
