Hi Johan
You must have a sponsor for a 457 visa and the sponsor has to be
approved by the Department in some way, though I do not know the
details.
However, if your skill is in hot demand, would you be eligible for a
skilled independent subclass 136 visa instead? That would give you
immediate Permanent Residence in Australia with absolutely unfettered
work rights, immediate access to Medicare, etc etc. Why go on a
temporary visa if you can get a permanent one?
Please see this site:

If you use the drop down menu where it says "post code" you can choose
a migration agent by country. Most migration agents will give you 20
minutes or so of free advice on the phone and can explain what options
you have and which visas you should consider. If there isn't an agent
near you, choose some in Oz or the UK instead, I would suggest. Ring
half a dozen and pick their brains. They are usually pretty helpful.
Best wishes

Actually you can get a 457 without a sponsor-the usual one is an
independent executive. This is for those wanting to start a business in
Oz. Doesn't sound all that relevant here tho.
I agree with U Gill that a permanent visa would be better if you can get
it. The 457 is option of last resort for migration purposes. I would
suggest reading the skilled migration booklet first. Then you can hassle
some migration agents if U want. The problem with starting with the
agents is that a lot of them will give U wrong/outdated/misleading info.
it all depends on whether they are any good. If you know nothing at all
you won't be able to tell if they're any good.
Of course PR costs more but the benefits are much greater as well.
Defiinetly worth Xploring.

Tony,
I believe the 457 Independent Executive visa is no longer issued to new
applicants. Only existing 457IE holders who continue to meet the
relevant criteria are eligible for a further grant of 457IE.
