Hi All
Received my 136 Visa last week.  I guess now the panic starts thinking
about all that needs to be done for the move.
I am thinking of going over to Perth in early December with the wife
and two kids following in late January..
Just wondering if you can give me some advice...

Is this a good/bad time to go with regards to  getting an IT job
seeing as it's close to their summer hols?

Will I be able to register the kids in school in December while they
are still in the uk?

Is there an average time that I should allow to find a house to rent?

Would be grateful for your words of wisdom.....

Thanks

Congrats on getting your visa.

You're right about being cautious about the Dec period. Generally,
Australia shuts down in the last fortnight of Dec, and not surprisingly
so. Having said that the IT market in general is booming here, so who knows.

You'll need to contact the school you plan to enrol your kids in, but I
suspect some schools may want to interview your kids.

It all depends on your individual wants and needs. Take a look at
www.domain.com.au and whereis.com.au - the former is a realestate portal
and the latter tells you where the suburbs are. New migrants will find
that it's possible that some rental agents will refuse to deal with you
without a prior Australian rental reference, so you will need to try
harder than the locals in terms of convincing the landlord/agent that
you're not going to burn the place down. Sometimes, paying the rent a
few months upfront might change their minds...

Good luck!

Yes mine was a 136 Skilled Independent.

Sent my Application off on 9th Oct '06
Request for Medicals and Police checks on 13th Feb' 07
Sent Medicals on 11th March '07
Sent Police Checks on 14th March' 07
Visa granted on 12th April '07
I did not get informed about employment checks - what does that
involve?

If your police checks were sent 3 weeks ago then hopefully it won't be
long before you are granted the visa.
Good luck and all the best.

I think the key question is was he asked for IELTS in the first place.
My guess is "no".

I didn't send it with the application but they didn't request it
either - Maybe because i'm in the Uk and put down English as my first
language.
