Called up DIMIA today to check on a few applications (coincidentally, four
of us in my department applied around the same time) but have yet to have
our case officers assigned.

Anyone in the same boat or applied around the same time but have recently
got your medical and police clearance requests?

At least I know I can stop looking into my mailbox in earnest for the next
month...

We applied in November 2002, and were requested our medicals the 2nd of
June  2003. We received the request directly by mail.

Good luck with the waiting!

Eileen,

A colleague of mine applied in Sept 2002, and had his 136 visa granted
in June 2003.

Every application is different, and you may get something from DIMIA
when you least expect it :)

My application was lodged the first week of August 2002. I got a
request for Police/Meds mid June 2003 which I sent back end of June.

Just waiting around now!

Hi Guys,

Just to say that we applied Nov 02 and had our med/pc requests in June.

There doesn't appear to be any kind of order in when/how applications
are assessed. A lot of people who applied as late as May of this year
have already had med/pc requested. This doesn't however mean that you
should start to worry, my scientific knowledge:lecture: draws me to the
conclusion that the assessing officers go into the application room shut
their eyes and say "eeny, meeny, miney, mo" and take out that winning
pile of forms. Unless of course someone has got a better idea of how
this application lottery works

You haven't said which visa you have applied for or from which
country??

My application was officially registered in ASPC on 02 Dec 2002.  I have
received Med/Pol request on 02 Jun 2003 (exactly 6 months).  Sent
everything off by the end of June, now waiting.

Best of luck.

Cheers.

Applied August 2002. Received request for meds & police checks
mid June, returnrd all docs to DIMIA by beginning of July, now just
waiting, waiting, waiting......

Contacted our case officer by email to see if they had received said
documentation and were told that Adelaide do not give progress
reports nor do they confirm receipt of docs. He also said that he was
inundated with work but he would keep an eye out for our docs...

It gets harder as you get nearer to the end!

All the best with your app.

Karl

do not give progress

Cathrine

as you seem to be a lass who's in the know, in your experience once
you have lodged your capital investment bond whats the process, we
lodged ours abour 6 weeks ago and just wondered if its going to days,
weeks or months?

Thanks Cathrine

i guess it a piece of string question really, most people i've
encountered seem to have waited no time at all 2-4 weeks, i have
contacted my case officer by email to ask if he needed a copy of the
bond certificate from me but alas no response, that was 4 weeks ago, i
tried calling but was told the usual we dont give updates or
acknowledge receipt of documents! i'll just have to keep hassling the
postie i guess.

Thanks

Hi,

I am also one of those applicants who filed in his Independent Skilled
migration during hte August 2002 period (30 Aug 2002 was when my
applicaiton was received by ASPC)

I keep eagerly looking for some commn from ASPC every day after work.
So far i haven't received anything from them. I tried to call them up
yesterday and i was put on the queue (for over 8 mintues) and i just
gave up. I wasn;t interested in paying the telco guys ISD peak rate
just to hear the message - Our officers are still busy.

I guess a good way to communicate would be fax/e-mail but then you
never know if they look into it while a telephone call gives you some
feedback as you talk to a human on the other side.

All said and done i am keeping my fingers crossed.

Just 2 more weeks to go for the 50 week deadline.

Hi Manglu,

If you really want to give DIMIA a ring, try calling about 5pm (Adelaide
time). The couple of times I called was in the late afternoon and got
through very quickly.

After my last call, I've "given up hope" for now. Won't be rushing to my
mailbox for quite a while :-)

Good luck and hope you hear from them very soon!

Cheers

We sent ours off end of October and got a med /police check request in
March. Visas were granted beginning of June.

It does seem to be hit and miss, but one thing I would do if you are in
a rush to get out there is get your medicals done now. Send off for your
police checks as they can takes ages. We waited 6 weeks and had to
hassle a lot to get ours through.

At least when you do get the request for them you can send them straight
off. Otherwise you might have to wait a while to get these sorted.

I hope things work out for you soon.
Eileen Ong - 31 Jul 2003 19:31 GMT
Hi Tinaj,

Congratulations on getting your visa!

Thanks for the advice. I've done my Australian Federal Police Clearance in
May 2003. Can't do my Singapore Police Clearance until I get the request
from DIMIA, as the Singapore Police wants to see the request letter before
would they do it. If not, I would probably have front-loaded my application.

As for medicals, it's just walk-in for Singapore clinics that does the
medical checks for DIMIA. Hence I'm not concerned about that.

Cheers
Eileen

We applied 26 Nov 2002. Med and Police requests 1 May, Meds and Police
checks arrived in Adelaide by courier on the 17th June. Visa Granted
18th June.

We realise we are one of the lucky ones. We did not use an agent and
applied for the skilled Independant visa.

Good luck to all those still waiting and it happens when you least
expect it!
