Hi Everyone,
I have come across this forum whilst looking for an alternative wa
(other than a JP) to certify documents as i think i'm being quoted to
much.
The thing is my wife needs to get 10 different documents certified an
requires 3 copies so 30 documents need to be certified.
I have made her an appointment which is only once per month at ou
local magistrates court and i have already been told it will be £8.0
per document so i am thinking this is going to cost us either £80.00 o
£240.00 depending on how they look at it, after reading other posts o
this forum most people are paying only £8.00 in total or getting i
done for free, i have checked with my local court again and they ar
still saying £8.00 per document, is this right, its going to cost us
fortune, also local solicitor wants to charge us £65.00 per document.
Thanks in advance, any advice would be appreciated

Hi DJorgio
We've had to get docs certified twice now, once for skill assessmen
and once for visa application.
Both times we phoned the magistrates court who told us to take them i
before the court sessions started (any day) and they were signed. Firs
time they were signed by a JP, second time by the duty solicitor. Bot
times it cost us £10 for the whole lot. First time we had about 1
docs, second was about 20 docs.
I think £8 per document is extortionate and if I were you I would phon
around the magistrates courts in your area. You may have to trave
slightly further afield but it may be worth it.
I hope this helps a little.

Hi Emma,
Thanks for that, i also think £8 per doc is way over the top, Im goin
to call around today and see what happens, its strange, i have calle
my local court twice now and although each time they have told me i
would be 8ppd the first time i was told we could go in any frida
before court starts although we would have to tell them prior to tha
and the second time i was told we could only attend on one day a mont
and this Wednesday happens to be that time of the month so i have mad
an appointment.
My wife has been accepted for a job as a nurse in NSW so i think sh
needs 3 copies as 1 extra copy needs to go to the Oz nursing board.
Thanks again

I have contacted Brighton magistrate courts and they are only chargin
£8.00 (TOTAL) regardless of how many documents and also they ar
much more flexible, we can simply turn up any day (mon to fri) at 09:3
without a prior appointment. :cheers

That's outrageous! They can't do that. We had to wait a while on the da
but no mucking around like that. I would definitely keep phoning around
what a pain. :(
I will send you good positive vibes! ;)

I'm stunned at what you people are having to pay! Usually stuff lik
this is more expensive and complicated to do here in SA but this is on
that isn't. Our police station can certify documents and they have to d
it for free, so we literally just pop in to the local police station an
have it done whenever we need to. I can't believe they make it s
difficult and expensive in the UK
