My wife from Burma (Myanmar) has received notification of Australia
citizenship approval. We will apply for the Australian passport on th
completion of the citizenship ceremony shortly.
Is she allowed to hold BOTH passports, and if so,can she travel on bot
passports?
Will the Australian Immigration ask questions if she was to leav
Australia on her Burmese passport and return using her Australia
passport?
Are there any special advice the forum could provide on travelling wit
2 passports please?
Kind regards,
Anthon

From an Australian point of view, Australia does not bother if you
choose to travel on your non-Australian passport when overseas. However,
an Australian citizen is expected to enter and leave Australia on an
Australian passport, or an Australian Declaratory Visa (ADV).
If yoru wife does not have an ADV in her Burmese passport, she will then
be expected to present her Australian passport when entering or leaving
Australia.

Now it is my turn to answer another question. If your wife can hold
two passports, (duo citizenship), depends on the law of Burma. In
other words, if Burma allows her citizens holds two citizenship.
Because Australia now allows duo citizenship, but Burma may not.
To be exact, Australian citizen is supposed to use Australia Passport
to come in or go out of Australia. ADV is just for some special
purposes. Once you have your citizenship, you are no longer eligible
for resident return visa. You can to DIAC website and look for "form
931". It explain the ADV very clearly.

What earthly purpose could be served anywhere (even Myanmar) by travelling
on a Myanmar passport?
A beautiful country with a genocidal, totally inept, and dictatorial,
military government!
