Hi all, found this site today - its nice to know that I'm not the only
one going through all this hideous waiting!

My partner has applied for a spouse visa in February (off shore, I am
Australian). He required further medical tests due to hep c infection
(discovered through the health checks - he had a blood transfusion
when he was a kid). After a lot of tests and stress the report should
now be with the MOC in Australia; it was sent just over 3 weeks ago
now. We were told it would take about 4-6 weeks for the MOC to give
the opinion.

As time goes on I am becoming increasingly stressed out that he won't
meet the medical requirements. We have been through so much already
and now this hep c infection on top of everything..its hard to deal
with. Apparently his liver function and tests and ultrasound are all
fine.

I've done a search here on hepatitis but found very little. Just
wondering if anyone out there has had any experience with this? I am
hoping and praying that he will be asked to sign a health undertaking
upon arrival, if we had to spend more money and go through more
bureaucracy I don't know what I'll do!!

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

No direct experience (other than applying for an granted a spouse
visa), but they are looking for anything that will cause considerable
expense to the local medicare system. They don't want to take on the
expense of known medical burdens. I think they will take the opinion
of the MOC and do whatever they judge. If they say you will be a cost
over and above normal expected costs, they will probably not grant the
Visa. However, if they do that there is an appeal process.

You'll just have to see what the opinion is. Nothing you can do but
wait I think.

Thanks for the reply Greg,

Yeah I think you're right all we can do now is wait for the MOC to
give an opinion. Its making me crazy though all this waiting.

Does anyone know anything about the health waiver - i.e. is this at
the discretion of the case officer after all the medicals are
completed? For example, if the MOC decides that my partner doesn't
meet the health requirements, can the case officer decide to waive the
requirements, or is this another whole process?

Has anyone been through this? I'd appreciate any info!

Cheers

Kirstin
