I a immigrating my wife lof 17 years living abraod with her. There are
many forms to fill and documents you need, and possibly translations and
getting all notarized, so I have given oursleves 8 months to collect
all. Then after you send forms to Immigration in Canada (address and all
forms) at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/

I have a lawyer for assistance (Cost about $4000 for whole process) and
am informed that it can take 2-3 months for first step of Canada
Immigration to check all your forms to make sure all is on order (If not
they will return to you) the they send to the local Canadian Embassy,
and that could take another 8 months or so.

As I have not completed the exercise yet these are only estimates. One
thing I need to do is buy a house this summer, as we have children in
school we plan to immigrate July 2007 if all is approved.

So, it does not happen really quick
