Changes to Canadian TRV

Help!  I am in Canada (from Brazil) on a student permit until the end
of 2006, and presently have a single entry temporary resident visa
(which has been used up by me getting here in the first place).  I now
want to visit Brazil this summer before my studies are over, and return
to Canada to complete my studies.

I understand that I need a new TRV for Canada that allows another entry
into Canada.  I can apply either in Brazil or in the US (my preference
would be Seattle).

If I apply by mail to the Cdn. Consulate in Seattle, do I have to visit
the consulate or is it all done by mail?  If I have to visit then I
will need a US visa to enter the US, presumably a B visa (for
pleasure?) and that takes about six weeks.

Also, when applying to Seattle, they ask you to include an "I-94 card"
which is a US travel document of some sort - so do you need the US visa
first, then apply for the Canadian one?

Or I could go to Seattle in person after obtaining my US visa and there
I could get the visa on the same day.  If I get a US B-2 visa for
pleasure, the Canadian consulate asks for a copy and also has some
supplemental questions.

Does anyone have any experience in what the Canadian consulate looks
for and why, especially regarding the US immigration documents?

You can apply by mail or come in person. Your choice. If you
apply by mail, you will need to send your passport to the visa
office, so make sure you send it using a reliable mean and
prepare reliable mean for them to send it back.

For normal case, you don't have to come. Even you come they most
likely won't interview you.

You don't have to come, but if you decide to, of course you need
USA visa (unless you come from country that eligible for USA
visa waiver).

If you apply in person, of course they will ask for proof of
status in USA. If you mail it from Canada, AFAIK you will need
to give proof of status in Canada.
