Port of Entry - Vancouver: landing in Montreal??

The port of entry in my application is Vancouver (I have a permanent
job offer from my old BC employer, dated 2002). The expiry date on my
landing papers is August 2nd so I'm going to go to Canada in July to
*land* but I'll be coming back to Ireland to sort out the move which
will probably take me a year or so.
So my question is - Can I visit Montreal in July and do all the
necessary paperwork at immigration to complete my landing (I have a
friend's address in Vancouver to send the resident card to)?
 Thanks!

Most likely no.

What category you have been approved in? If you approved under
BC Provincial Nominee Program, you may be required to land in
BC, or at least may required to prove your intention to settle
in BC. If you apply under federal categories (such as federal
skilled worker), then you are required to land in Canada outside
Quebec. You may be allowed to land in Quebec if you can prove
and satisfy the officer that you will settle outside Quebec
(e.g. your ticket just stop-over at Quebec).

This probably doesn't matter much.
