I will be landing in Toronto on Saturday the 29th. I am not relocating
to Canada at this time, but my landing expiration date is August 2nd. I
am only staying for a couple of days and then flying back to Ireland.
Are immigration officers aware and accepting of people arriving in
Canada for a few days to just secure landing and apply for their
resident card?
If I am not relocating at this time, do I need to show proof of funds?
When I applied for permanent residency in 2002, I submitted a Canadian
job offer with my application. So do I need proof of funds if I am
going to work in Canada as soon as I do relocate?
Can I show an Irish bank statement instead of landing with a load of
cash in my pocket?
Thanks in advance!
Welcome to Canada. :-)

This is a pretty common practise.

That's a grey area as far as I am concerned. It strikes me that your
situation may be considered unusual. If the job offer you used to get
points on your PR is not actually valid, then that could be considered
mis-representation. Is the job still on the cards? By indicating that
you are not taking up residence immediately, this could be in question.

All they need is proof of funds in a readily transferable form - so your
Irish bank statement will be perfect. :-)

Welcome once again! :-)

Indeed. If someone got points for pre-arranged employment, then didn't
land until just before their visa expired, then when they did land said
they'd be leaving again shortly... well, if I was an immigration
officer I'd be asking a lot of questions.

My case is also similar to you, but landing in later Sep. Could you
please share your experience with immigration officials and whether
they accepted the funds in other currency as proof?

Explain other currency ?
a while back there was a thread about acceptable currency and IIRC some
currencys were not acceptable ?!
