In almost all cases, the only way for a non Canadian nor PR to work in
Canada is to get an employer willing to sponsor them work permit.

What's their status in Canada?

How long?
The fact that you actually live in Canada may means you already break
your legal status as visitor. You may already "illegal alien" in
Canada.

> My question is if I get my immigration process moving can i legally work in Canada?

I can safely say, no. See above.

> what are the processing times?

Depend on the immigration category you choose and eligible, from few
months to several years.
