Hi

My parents got there Permanent Residency application related medicals
done in their home country. They are now visiting North America for a
couple of months.

Subsequently, there is a letter from the embassy stating that they
want some more test/ investigation results for one of my parents from
the original consultant (doctor) in their home country and that the
response is required within 30days.

I want sincere advice from experts Mr. Miller, Mr. Humphries:

1. Can I get their additional medical tests/ investigations done from
a CIC designated doctor in Canada or US? What do I have to do for this
in addition to just going to the doctor?

2. Do they have the option to wait till they finish their visit and
return in 3-4 months and get the additional medicals done by the
original doctor instead?

3. Do they have to rush back to their home country so that they don't
miss the 30days deadline and as well as see the original doctor - not
a good option for us a this time?

thanks,

They are asking for the report of the original specialist that treated your
family member and follow up tests and some investigation as well, so that is
what must be obtained.  I presume that was done in your home country so you
had better plan on that quick return home for them.  It is the fastest way
to comply.
You could write and sk for an exception to permit them to go to a specialist
in Canada but they can always say no and there would be no appeal on that
ground.  Sad and Sorry indeed.

Hi Jim

Thanks for the information - although upsetting since they just came
in about 10days.

How specific are the immigration authorities about the 30days deadline
- is it ok if it is delayed by about a week or so?

Although, I have sent an enquiry to the Immigration authorities - lets
see what do they indicate in their reply (if they do send one) to the
similar questions.

regards,
Kapil

I replied to your private email sent to me.  The visa office cannot be too
strict because medical tests etc. can take longer than the 30 days they
quote.  Write them once you know how long it will actually take to provide
what they requested.
