Hi,

I am a newly landed skilled worker immigrant.

Can we start the job from a new employer few days (1-2 days) after
applying SIN card?

Do we have wait for the SIN card to arrive on mail and then only start
the job?

Thanks,

When you apply for theSIN card they will give you your number so you can
work right away.  Just tell the employer you'll show the actual card in a
few weeks when you get it.

No. You can legally working in Canada as soon as you get PR
status, with or without SIN or SIN card.

SIN is needed for tax purposes (in fact, the employer have no
business asking for SIN unless for tax purposes), so if your
employer do income tax withholding, then you need SIN to get
your salary. Therefore you won't need your SIN before the
employer start processing your salary.

Furthermore if you apply for SIN, you will get your SIN the same
day. Just the SIN card will take few weeks.

In short: having no SIN is no reason to delay your employment.
