Is visa needed to enter USA from Canada?

If I want to enter New York from Toronto, do I need any kind

of USA visa? If I have only PR card then is there difference?

You need Visa for US, only citizen of Canada don?t need visa for
visit to US.

It depends on your citizenship, ie what passport you show the INS.
Canadian Citizenship is exempt from needing a visa for visiting, you
still need one for working, studying etc. There are other countries on
the US Visa Waiver program though that can also enter as visitors
without a visa, all be it for a much shorter time than a Canadian
Citizen. Such countries include the UK and Australia and much of western
Europe etc. So if you were a UK Citizen living in Canada as a PR you
could still enter the Us for a short visit of less than a month without
a visa.

Hmm...I didn't know that the visa waiver passport holders would get only a
month if they crossed the border instead of automatic 90 days thru US
Airports.

Technically speaking, anyone except citizens of the USA require a visa
for entry to the USA.

Whether that visa is waived, however, is a different story and dependant
on your citizenship. You obviously do not hold Canadian citizenship, which
is one avenue.

Certain other countries have a visa requirement waived, meaning that
either after paying a small fee, they can get immediate entry at the border
or even that there is no fee required.
