Well everything went well, interview only took record 7 mins. We took
our 1 month old son with us, who was little crying but officer was
very nice about it. We were not asked many questions - following is
what i remember:
1. Basic question from my wife regarding her criminal background etc.
2. About me, how i got the citizenship, my job.. Officer wanted to see
letter from my employer and paystubs if I had them, I had three, she
took one from them and staple them to the letter from employer.
3. Birth certificate of our son
4. Officer took EAD, Travel Docs etc.
5. Asked us if we are happy together and how we met etc.
After that, she stamped the passport and told us to expect green card in
< 5months. Also we should apply for perminant residence 90 days before
the green card expires. One thing that took my by surprise that wife
can become citizen in 3 years.
My wife laughed at me because i had whole bag full of goodies e.g
pictures, backup tax papers, backup Support form, 129F forms etc....
It only took 6 months for all the process.. next step is to go to Social
Security office to order new SSN card which doesn't have wording "not
valid without EAD"
Now i have a q... will wife need a visa to go to canada? I remember not
needing visa when i had my green card.

Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. Farhan! ;)
If I may be a little nit-picky in the middle of your party.... :) Your
wife now IS a permanent resident, in 2 years minus 90 days she'll have
to file to have the conditions removed from her permanent resident
status. But she already fully is a PR right now! But forget about all
that for right now and celebrate! :)

Question, Elaine,
In 2 years minus 90 days she can file to have the conditions removed.
She is also eligible to apply for citizenship in 3 years. If she wants
to become a citizen, does she first apply to have conditions removed,
and then 3 months later apply for citizenship? Seems like a waste of
time and effort to do one thing, and then 3 months later do the next
thing. Do I have it right?
Thanks!

Hi Rene,
In 2 years minus 90 days a conditional PR needs to apply for removal of
conditions, and in 3 years minus 90 days (so a year later) a marriage-
based PR is eligible to apply for citizenship. With removal of
conditions taking forever-and-a-day, what I hear is that a lot of people
are still in the removal of conditions procedure when they apply for
citizenship (but that's a year later, not 3 months... I don't really see
where 'your' 3 months come from?). :)

I know, I calculated it wrong...sorry....lol I got it now ;) Thanks!
So, the date you can apply for citizenship has to do with the date you
become a PR - not the date you either entered the USA, or
married...right?

Right.
Although for some the date they enter and the date they become a PR is
the same (think CR1/IR1). ;)

Congratulations, Mrs Farhan & Mr Farhan, too.
So, we're all dying to know, how did you answer #5? ;)
Remember to wait 10 working days for her status to be updated in the
Social Security SAVE system, or you may waste a trip.
Double check on Canada, rules have changed since you were a PR. She will
have to consider her citizenship PLUS her US PR status.
And, as HG mentions, it is important to note that your wife IS a
Permanent Resident now. Removing Conditions is a little bonus step to do
in a couple of years. We just filed ours, and it was simple, partly
because I've been saving evidence since the marriage. Take a look at
From I-751 for a preview of what you should prepare for (it comes up
faster than you think!).

Congratulations!! I filed my AOS paper back to the end of this April in
Cincinnati also. I saw your original post and it says it only took you
6 months to get AOS done. So I suppose you filed your AOS in May,
2004? Thanks.

LOL! I find that extremely amusing... :D
I'm glad everything went fine, congratulations again!
