Well Santa came a few days late but it was well worth it and such a
surprise.  We had such a disheartening experience on Tuesday when Garry
went to be fingerprinted, that I decided I was going to lay off looking
up any approvals etc till next week.  This morning when I was on the
computer I decided what the heck.  I didn't have his NOA's in front of
me and just typed his number in hoping it would be correct!  I thought I
was reading someone else's..............I ran downstairs yelling yipee,
woke Garry up, pulled the papers out of the filing cabinet to confirm
the numbers while he was waking up to see what all the commotion was.
40 days from the date of receipt, Garry's EAD was approved!  I yelled
over to him..............Get that Welsh Arse out of bed boy, and go look
for a job!  He jumped out of bed laughing and we are SOOOOOOOOOOOO
EXCITED!!!  He has had so many offers that when he is ready to go, come
see them for a job.  So now I guess we just sit tight and wait for the
card to arrive and THEN go get him a SS#?  Or can we take the approval
from online printed to the SS office?  What's everyones advice?

NO !!!!!!!!

And there is no guarantee that he will get the SS card in a timely
manner.  If his status has not been updated in the SAVE system and it
has to be manually verified by the SSA with the USCIS, then it could
take up to 8 weeks for a SS # to be issued.

question, I have a ss number in my maiden name, and went to update
yesterday with my new 8 month temp ead and marrisge certificate to get
the name changed.. she said "I cant give this to you today, we have to
sent it to the INS for verification.. they should have told you that..
it could take a few weeks" I had my old card with me..

I now have a work car

is the SS number still good in my maiden name??

better be.

thanks

HI there

as far as your SSN is concerned, once you have one it remains the same
no matter if you get married or change you name...you get assigned a #
and that is yours 'forever'...so the number is the same even when you
get it updated with your new name.

All you need to do is provide Social Security with a few documents and
they will send you a new card in your new Married Name!  EASY!

Yup the number won't change.  Only the name on the card itself.

Hi souls,

Your SSN is still good in your mainden name...it's the number that
counts more than the name on it.  But even if they have to do an manual
verification, in the meantime they should issue you a receipt that
states you are in the process of changing your name, and you can use
that receipt to show anyone who questions whether you have a SS card or
not.  The new card will be mailed to you with your married name on it.
