Hi all,
Sorry I haven't posted in a while, just been enjoying married life and
living and working here in Milwaukee. The problem i'm having is that I
have my AOS interview on January 13th. The problem is I can't make it,
as I have a wedding we booked flights and commited to before this
interview.
I called CIS early December to explain my situation, the lady I spoke to
said she could not do anything on the phone and advised me the only
think I could do was write a letter explaining my situation to my local
CIS in Milwaukee and asking for them to reschedule my appointment. So I
did this, and sent the letter our December 9th.
I haven't heard anything and now its near the end of December, and my
interview is 2 weeks away. I called again today and the guy I spoke to
at CIS basically said that theres nothing he can do. All I can do is
wait for a response letter, if I get any in between now and the
interview. If I don't recieve it, then to bad. I either cancel my plans
and go to the interview, or miss it all together.
I guess I want to know if anyone else has any luck canceling and
rescheduling and AOS interview? Also if there are any other steps I can
take. What consequences there are if I don't make my AOS.
Thanks again, and for Happy Xmas and Happy New Year new year to those I
haven't spoken to in a while.
James

I have seen people on here report that their AOS was denied for missing
the interview even after they sent written requests to reschedule. It
is difficult to get them to re-open the case. The AOS is all important.
I would not even think about trying to reschedule it.
Good Luck!

Hi There James!! Long time no see! Glad to see life is treating you
well state-side.
Canceling/rescheduling the AOS interview is a bad idea. See here for
someone who recently posted something similar:

If by some chance they didn't receive your letter, or they receive it
too late, OR they don't consider your reason for resceduling a valid
enough reason, they will consider you a no-show, and close your case.
You'll have to go through petitioning to re-open your case and get it
started up again. I wouldn't risk it if I were you.
Best Wishes!

[HI James,
Sorry to hear of your troubles. It is a bit worrying for me to as I just
submitted a change of address form to Milwaukee after receiving a
request to appear for interview there despite me submitting and
receiving receipt acknowledging my change of address to NY... sighhhh
Anyway. I would suggest phoning the Citizenship and Immigration Services
and pointing out to them that the letter you recieved requesting you to
appear for an interview states: (on the bottom of the letter) that in
cases of emergancy you can phone CIS to reschedual an appointment. Not
too sure how much good this will do, but maybe you can claim that this
is an emergancy seeing as the date is soon and you have got no reply to
your letter

Hi MrDub,
I wonder if it would be OK to fly back to Milwaukee for the interview??

Well that is certaintly an option. However for both of us to fly to
Milwaukee and stay there is going to cost a fair bit of money. (just got
back from spending xmas there).
I have no real urgency about getting this green card as I am happily
working (and living ) in New York. Obviously I would prefer to have the
green card in Febraury but waiting for a reschedualed interview in say
June is not a big deal for me (already have my advance parole granted).
Also if I am not so keen on the idea of not telling the office in
Milwaukee I am not living in Wisconsin anymore at the time of the
interview...just in case.

Of course I also had my finger printing taken and EAD granted in New
York. I guess it would be to much to expect a bit of
consistency...anyway I wont rant on in Jame's post !.

Thanks all for the advice.
Problem solved, we've delayed our flight by a day for $315 for both of
us. Uggggggggggggh! Anyway this is the best situation. We contemplated
flying back to the interview from Colorado, but then I worried about the
flight be delayed by weather. So delaying our trip by a day seemd the
best option.
Good to hear from you all again, no doubt you'll be hearing from me
again as I prepare all the paperwork for my AOS.
