What happens at POE?

I have my interview on June 15, 2005.  I will be making flight
reservations as soon as they have returned my passport to me.

1)  Does anyone know how long it takes for them to return the passport,
so long as they have accepted me?

2) Upon entry at the POE, how long does it take for you to clear
immigration and get through the doors into the US?! (I am flying
hopefully into a fairly regular airport - Baltimore)

Welcome to comments and advice...

One day.  It is returned to you by overnight post which you will pay for
at the Consulate.

As long as it takes.  No one can make that determination.  Lots depends
on the number of persons that have to be processed at secondary.  If
there is more than one plane and several immigrations on those plans it
could take up to an hour.  They will tell you to go to secondary and
take your brown envelope and passport.  You will sit until called to the
desk.  The envelope will be opened.  You'll be asked a few questions and
while answering they will be looking at the contents and stamping away.
Your passport will be stamped and an I-94 affixed to it stating your
visa type and length of authorized stay.  Then you will be free to go.

It should take two days only but, there have been instances where it's
taken four or five days.

Baltimore is, indeed, a fairly regular airport, (it's my local
airport). :D

The time it takes you to get through immigration depends on how many
other flights have arrived at the same time as yours. On top of that,
you will have to be fingerprinted and photographed before you move onto
secondary inspection, (this is where they look at your paperwork).

Back when I came through with my visa I was there for over an hour and
that was prior to the fingerprinting/piccy taking. You could be
through faster or it might be longer - it all depends on so many
different things.

Remember to smile - they're a nice bunch of IOs there. ;)

Good luck with your interview.

Don't forget that how soon you get off the plane can affect how long it
takes, too!

Mark was the last person off his plane once it landed at Dulles, and was
on the last shuttle to the main terminal. There were two other planes
that arrived around the same time as his did, and somehow they all got
ahead of him, too. Even though his flight arrived 20 minutes early, it
took him two hours to get through immigration. It was the longest two
hours of my life, waiting for him to walk through those doors!

And coincidentally, this happened exactly two years ago today. :)

I was one of the first off the plane when I arrived at BWI, (we'd been
upgraded to first class on our way home after getting my visa) and we
still had to wait for bloody ages!

I swear that they went through all the more 'complicated' cases in
secondary inspection first - it certainly seemed like it as we were just
about the last people out of there.

Thanks for the advice, looks like I will tell my husband about an hour.
You are right we have been waiting for this moment for months now, CR1
this and I864 that - it is like the last hour will be the longest! BWI
is my local too - have you been in MD long? When did you emigrate? Have
you applied for citizenship?

Careful what you say please leedspaddy... Certain parts of
Baltimore might not be to everyones taste, but I believe Maryland
on the whole to be a great state and great location in the USA to
live.  Where do you live?

Approx an hour. I would strongly recommend self lubing. It makes the
anal probing far less uncomfortable.

I went through LAX on a K1 VISA 4 weeks ago.  Once I got to the
official, it took me about 15 mins.  He literally ripped the brown
envelope in given by the embassy.  He flipped through the bundle of
papers twice, asked a couple of questions which I guess were just
checking that my answers correlated to those in the paperwork, stamped
my passport, reminded me that I needed to marry within 90 days - and all
without smiling once!!!
