Hello,
If anyone has filed an I-485 adjustment of status using the Chicago p.o. box address (USCIS, PO Box 805887, Chicago, IL 60680-4120), how long did it take to get a receipt notice?
We sent our application *registered* mail but INS is not picking it up. We called the post office and the clerk said our package has been sitting there for a week, and it will get sent back to us soon. The clerk said INS sends couriers to pick up mail "whenever they feel like it" and "whatever they feel like picking up". She said we should contact the recipient (i.e. INS) in Chicago but we don't know how. Does anyone have a phone number to contact the INS Chicago processing center, or any suggestions how to file if INS is not signing for it?
Thanks, Al

Al,
It's very unfortunate that it happened to you.I mailed my wife's
application on 5/13/2005 via Express Mail and it was received by
INS(Same IL address) on 5/16/2005.(It was signed by an employee). We
received the AON notice on June/11/2005. Don't bother calling them,
wait till you receive your application back and send it again by US
Express Mail. Good Luck !
