Has anyone here had any experience with USCIS cancelling your interview
a week before you were supposed to appear for the appt? Also, how long
after they cancelled your appt did you receive a new one? I am just
really confused as to why mine was cancelled. My biometrics was complete
and I thought everything checked out fine. What do you all think?

Cancellations for all petitions at the last minute is not a rare
occurrence, Tater.  It is daunting though, isn't it.

The reasons can be as varied as the people conducting or attending the
interview.  Vacation, illness, overscheduling, file not returned from
the land of storage, etc.  It need not be because of something about
your case but would, I would hazard to guess, to be because of a mundane
office issue.

As for the time involved for the rescheduling, that would require a
crystal ball, candlelight and a full moon.  I'll get back to you when
the planets are in alignment.

My August 2005 interview was cancelled "due to unforeseen
circumstances".  I called the USCIS customer service line to ask about
this.  Mine was being processed at the Baltimore office and the rep I
talked to said the Baltimore office was notorious for such
cancellations, mainly due to over estimation of applicants.  I'm
guessing they did not realize they have made appointments for too many
people.  The rep said it's not due to problems about your case, mostly
on the processing center itself.  Mine was rescheduled on December 2005
but I did not receive that reschedule notice until after a month or so.

I'd be very surprised if the rep knew anything at all about the
Baltimore office let alone that they were notorious for such
cancellations. This is probably the stock answer they've been told to
provide (regardless of the office involved) to allay the fears of anyone
who calls them.

REP: USCIS hot line, how may I help you?
YOU: My N-400 interview has been cancelled what do I do now?
REP:  What office was your interview at?
YOU:  Baltimore.
REP: Just a moment... (reading from sheet of paper designed to answer
this exact question)... it seems the insert name here office is
notorious for such cancellations due to overbooking. They will send you
a notice within 120 days to reschedule.
YOU:  Oh... okay, thanks.
REP: You're welcome... (you both hang up - and rep leans over to her
friend in the next cubicle) hey, Gloria... I just got another one! I
can't believe how gullible people are... they'll believe just about
anything we tell them... even if it's a lie!
GLORIA: Yeah... I love this job!

I know.  I've started to doubt the reps at the customer service center
that I''ve began to call more than twice just to get another rep and see
if they answer the same thing, which in most cases aren't.
Unfortunately in the end I just end up more confused.  I was at the
Baltimore office one time and asked people if theirs were cancelled as
well.  No one really got an answer from anybody regarding why it was
cancelled.  Some lawyers said the same reason, which was probably the
same reason they got from calling the service center.

Real sorry about your appointment being cancelled.  Not fun. Not fun at
all.
I have heard, of a couple cases like yours.  It would appear to be,
nothing more then a scheduling issue, ie. the agent you were scheduled
to see, has gone sick, maternity leave, or emergency of some kind.  All
the other agents are already booked.  You will get a new appointment.

Thankyou and I know it will be scheduled eventually, but afterall, there
are the Immigrant protests that are taking place on Monday May 1st
outside the immigration building, so I am almost sure this is the reason
why they have cancelled mine and maybe others interviews for the first
few days in May. And to be honest, I don't think I would be wanting to
walk through that door while all of this is going on. My car may not be
the same color when I come out from my interview.....
