Maybe his wife WANTED a new sewing machine? Maybe she even ASKED for
one! Maybe sewing is her hobby and Ned wanted her to have the latest
and greatest! Maybe she's a professional seamstress!
One of my friends' husband gave her a new set of tires for her car
(which she uses for business) for Christmas! Another year he gave her a
years supply of the vitamins she takes that cost a bundle.
Gifts can be anything that makes your partner happy. I personally don't
care for diamonds, and would appreciate a gift much more practical than
jewelry. To each his own.

I take your point but still would respectfully disagree with you.
I would not be happy to receive a sewing machine or a set of pots and
pans for my birthday or in particular an "anniversary"
I cannot finf withing my knowledge data base the connection between a
'sewing" machine and your anniversary??
Fo rthe record a sewing machine is much like a washing machine or some
other must have "necessity" . Anniversary equals fun and romance and
sewing machine does not immediately jump to my mind. but you might be
right in so far as it could be her hobby and a much valued gift indeed
and requested. However it is a potentially strange gift in the absense
of unusually circumstances.
I doubt anyone else here ever received such a strange gift at their
anniversary time of year.

My wife's favorite gift from myself was her black and gold semi auto .40
caliber pistol.. and her lawn tractor was the second favorite...

I totally agree with you, Rene, as usual. :)
I told Mark not to bother buying me jewelry -- I'd never wear it. The
only piece of jewelry I wear is my wedding ring, and that's mostly
because it's fairly plain and doesn't get in the way.
Why waste money on something you know the recipient doesn't want??
Years ago my father gave my mother a table saw for their anniversary.
She still brags about it today as being one of the best gifts she's ever
received from anyone; it has brought her years of happiness. But I
suppose that in RTI's mind, that's not the point.

ps. FWIW, I got a sewing machine as my high school graduation gift. It's
come in handy plenty of times.

Ohhh that reminded me of one more unusual gift this friend of mine got.
Before she and her husband were married, again for Christmas one year,
he got her a huge model of a car engine that you had to learn the parts
and where they go, so you could put the model together correctly. She
uses her car 100% of the time for business, and he was worried about her
breaking down and not knowing her car engine parts. That, to me, showed
his care for her.
That said, they've been together now for 7 years, and in addition to
those unique gifts, he had her late mother's diamond engagement ring
reset into a modern setting, more to her liking, and propsed to her with
that ring. It's nice to see guys can be practical AND romantic. :)

She isn't a professional seamstress, but she did want a sewing
machine. After Christmas we were wandering around Target when she saw
some and started drooling over them. At least until she saw the price.
My wife then moved into her mantra: "To expensive! I buy at yard sale.
$15 dollars."
When I came home with the machine a month later she was all over it.
"Oooh! I like! This good!" Then she looked up at me and asked: "How
much?"
I told her. "Special deal. Only $15. I buy at yard sale at Sears."
She told me to take it back. Of course I refused. After about an hour
of going through the manual the "to expensive" chanting died down.

She doesn't have a license yet so no car. That is on the list

Diamonds too I think. I'm expecting a nice sum of money in the next
few months once an uncle's estate is all settled out.

Her Birthday was a few weeks ago. She absolutly forbid me to do
anything. The reason may be due to the fact it was the Big 40 for her.
Of course she still looks under 30 to anyone who sees here. :)
On the bad news front, she blew her road test for her license again.
This time she was told she was driving to slow. I told her that this
was an improvment. She had no trouble backing up this time. :)
I'll start prodding her to try again in a week or so. I also told her
that instead of a friend driving her to Concord, she should drive up
instead. It would put her in the right frame of mind.

What surprises me, is that you actually think. BTW, exactly what
business of yours is it what he buys his wife? And, while I'm thinking
about it, who appointed you the gift police?
Why don't you stick to what you do best... giving misinformation.

Please give me a break form your constant moaning herein.
You do not own this site ` please understand that and speak when you
have something constructive to utter.
As a lady I was trying to offer some advice when it comes to purchasing
appropriate present. From my experience many males do not have a clue
when it comes to giving presents but I suppose you know it all in this
context as well as every other.
Please desist from posting wherein I post as that would please me. ..
you have a negative influence to often and that is not what I need.

One gift I got from my husband was a kitchenaid stand mixer, i think it
was a xmas gift, but if it was any kind (bday, anni etc) i would have
been just as ecstatic. I loved it, was what i really did want, since i
love to bake and cook, and who cares what some1 else gets their wife for
their anniversary if they are happy?

Oh just to add, a real lady would never make comments like yours about
somebody else's anniversary gift. Not classy or ladylike at all dear.

I'm still waiting for you to get me banned from this forum. You've
threatened it several times now... when will you follow through with
your threats?
Ian

You sure have a problem with me or is it with women in general I would
not like to be around you all day.
look up the legal definition of threat and you will see therein that I
have never "threated" you. I asked you to desist from you silly big man
behaviour although it was rather funny and it made me smile.
I expect you are small in stature acting big in public ... I see it all
the time in my profession. Try and get over your obsession with me and
all that I say herein.
Now go away!! read my lips as I will not demean myself more with you
and your type.

Well... let's tell the truth... here is what you actually said:
April 9, 2006: “Try anger management and watch your tongue as I might
just petition to have you banned herein for foul language. You have been
warned. Desist or face the consequences.â€
July 24, 2005: “Please control your foul mouth and desist from this
conduct lest I take action against you for defamation by your libel.â€
Your comments sound threatening to me! At any rate, I have asked you
several times to follow through with your actions but you seem
hesitant to act. Why? Is it because you know there's nothing you can
do; that you're totally impotent to act; that you're nothing more than
a blowhard?
Hmm... when I suggested you were a blowhard, I didn't actually think
that I had hit the nail on the head! I guess I'm wrong!

There is a definite implication of the oldest one.

Honey
We all have a problem with you. Some of us though rather correct your
errors and laugh at your posts. Ian takes you far to seriously in my
honest opinion. BTW I am the one that you would ask to have him banned.
I can tell you now, it ain't happening.
