Does anybody know if minor traffic tickets for which
you paid a fine and took a traffic school need to be
mentioned when you apply for naturalization? I think
those don't go into the DMV driving record.
Do you need to mentioned all the traffic violations
including those that didn't go into the diving records?

Thanks,
IP.

The question specifically asks whether you have "ever" been cited. What
do you think?

If that is the question, it needs to be mentioned of course.
The only problem is to remember exact date since this isn't
even on DMV record - It was cleared by taking on-line traffic
school lessons. They allow to do this in CA if it is not a
serious ticket and there wasn't another one within eighteen
month. I guess that approximate date would do then.

Thanks for your help,
IP.

Hi IP,

When you took the class, they should have given you a receipt. Always
keep a copy of everything important, like this.

* Tell 'em you had it and what it was for.
* Tell 'em you can't remember the exact date by using the "On or
 around" verbage.
* Look at your bank/credit card statement and find when you paid the
 traffic school fee.
* Copy the bank/credit card statement and enclose with relevant line
 item highlighted.
* Send off for a 5-year certified MVD record (which is hopefully blank!)
and send 'em a copy of that, too.

You should be good to go!

Ian you can be a jerk with your answers.

Read this carefully straight from the USCIS.GOV website concerning traffic
tickets:

For example, if you have been arrested or convicted of a crime, you must send
a certified copy of the arrest report, court disposition, sentencing and any
other relevant documents, including any countervailingevidence concerning the
circumstances of your arrest and/or conviction that you would like USCIS to
consider. Note that unless a traffic incident was alcohol or drug related,
you do not need to submit documentation for traffic fines and incidents that
did not involve an actual arrest if the only penalty was a fine of less than
$500 and/or points on your driver's license.

Now what part of : "you do not need to submit documentation for traffic fines
and incidents that did not involve an actual arrest if the only penalty was a
fine of less than $500 and/or points on your driver's license."DO YOU not
understand???????

Relevant Instructions for N-400 (http://www.uscis.gov/graphics/formsfee/forms/files/n-
400ins.pdf)
"All applicants must send certain documents with their application.
For example, if you have been arrested or convicted of a crime, you must
send a certified copy of the arrest report, court disposition,
sentencing and any other relevant documents, including any
countervailing evidence concerning the circumstances of your arrest
and/or conviction that you would like USCIS to consider. Note that
unless a traffic incident was alcohol or drug related, you do not need
to submit documentation for traffic fines and incidents that did not
involve an actual arrest if the only penalty was a fine of less than

The OP's question was whether or not to disclose the violation. While
you don't need to include documentation if the fine was less than $500,
you must still disclose the violation.

No.  She was not cited for a driving infraction but ticketed most likely
by a meter maid or the male equivalent.

I'm not an attorney.  This disclaimer is valid in NYS!

Of course! Thanks for reiterating the point of the relevant quotation.

I did after talking with my lawyer in-depth about it. As a note the
officer did make some notations to the effect during the interview. I
did not have the original citation but a quick trip to the courthouse
fixed that.
