hello there.  i have a few questions.  have you guys experienced an
immigration officer asking for the petitioner's ORIGINAL birth
certificate?  my husband the USC was born abroad and there's no way for
him or his family to get the original since everybody has moved to the
US.  nobody really visits their old country anymore.  we only have a
photocopy.

also, has anybody experienced being asked for employment letters?
usually when do they do that?  thanks.  take care all.

His US Passport is sufficient.  If he was a USC at birth, his birth was
registered with the State Department.  He can obtain his birth
certificate by writing to the US State Department in Washington, DC.
That's how I got mine since I was born in Germany.

He only has a Certificate of Citizenship.  Is that sufficient?
Thanks again.

His certificate should be more than enough.

Personally though - on another note - I would encourage him to get his
U.S. Passport.

What is the benfit of NOT having it?

I'm guessing it's $60 that could better be spent on an afternoon
shopping.

Actually, it's $97 for a first-time passport application, if you're
16 or older:

An employment letter is usually part of the I-134 or I-864 Affidavit
of Support package.  If an employment letter is missing from that
package, and it is determined to be needed, it can happen at the visa
interview stage or the AOS stage (since Affidavits of Support are used
at both stages).

Actually for the interview, itself, the employment letter is far more
than just a means of verifying employment.

The employment letter for the interview should contain:

1.  Type of employment (full/part time)
2.  Annual Salary
3.  Start Date
4.  Contact information for emergencies
5.  Beneficiary(ies) for health and dental plans, 401K, life
   insurance, etc.

It should be used primarily for proof of the comingling your lives.

WE just had our AOS interview yesterday... The officer didnt ask for any birth cert of the petitioner nor the passport, she just asked for an Identification, my husband showed his Drivers licence, she asked though for employment cert.  Just the same you have nothing to loose if you will have evrything ready. .
