Hi, All.

I just got approved my 2 yrs conditional GC. I got my welcom letter and
still waiting for the actual GC in my mail.
Anyway, long story to short, My attorney filed all my documents with my
maiden name. So,  I was hoping that I can change to my husband's last
name when we were at interview. But the officer told me that he doesn'e
do it. We have to go to SSC office and chage my last name and then
Driver's license place. So I'm going to do in next week.

However, I wanted to know if anyone know whether I would be able to file
my I751 with my new last name or I should file with my maiden name which
was used for AOS.

Thanks

It is my understanding that only US citizens can change their name in
the US.

Non-citizens would have to change their name in their home country.
Get a passport issued with the name you want, then USCIS goes with the
name in your passport (you can file form I-90 to update your green
card), then any other US agency goes with the name you use with USCIS.

When you become a US citizen, you can change your name then (without
having to deal with authorities of your home country)

Others may know better, but I would think you can file with your "new" name.
At our interview we asked the officer if we could change my wife's name
and he said, "No problem". He made the change on a form in our file.
However, the card arrived with the wrong name on it. After much trouble
my wife did finally receive her card with the "correct" name on it. I
don't know why your officer said no and ours said yes. With the trouble
we had maybe ours should have said no and I would have paid for the I-90
to make the correction.
If you have the time or interest read posts from Steffi. It took her
almost a year to get a correct card!

We just had our AOS interview yesterday and same as you we filed with my maiden name on it.  After the Interviewer told me that We were approved I asked her if she could put my married name on the conditional GC and she said absolutely... she even put my AKA single name on file so that she said I can still use my passport since it will not be expired in two years.  I wonder why your interviewer didnt do that with you.  Anyway, I hope You can change your last name and will have no problem with it.
