Hi:
Just returned from a local bar-CIS liaison meeting. Please note that
effective September 1st, 2006, the Local Districts will lose their
authority to issue EAD cards -- this includes interim and emergency
cards. This is nationwide change.
What do do? This is for Los Angeles ONLY, but it may be applicable
elsewhere -- you can still make an InfoPass. The contact rep will have
agency contact points to confirm that application was filed, biometrics
done and card has yet to be generated. LOS has been "assured" that
they will receive a response from the "contact point" within 30 minutes.
If interim EAD is to be issued, LOS has been "assured" it will be issued
within 10 days. With these "assurances" the LOS people are "confident"
it will work. The attorneys present did not share the confidence since
we have been aware of nationwide problems in NBC handling of EAD
applications.
Good luck to all.
