I'm kind of freaking out. my I-485 etc was going swimmingly (prints
done all that) until i got a request for Initial Evidence in the form
of 'Proof of lawful admission to the US"
I'm Canadian, I came through on a land border, I got inspected, I
handed over my passport, and that was it. They didn't stamp it. I
have no I-94. I have nothing. I entered legally, watched him scan my
passport, but i have no PROOF that any of this happened.
Can anyone offer suggestions as to what the hell I'm supposed to do?

I would first attempt to respond with just what you said here -- your
situation is not going to be unique.

Just tell them your story, and ask them to examine their scan entries
at your border crossing with date and see what happens. As it is they
don't know where to look. As a Canadian, what you did was legal. We
used to go back and forth from Alaska to Yukon Territories all the
time and the only time I was ever asked anything was when I had too
much film and he thought I was going to sell it! I don't think they
want to bar you, they just need all their paperwork in order.
