I am in the US on a student F1 visa received from my university, from
which I just graduated.
A few weeks ago I had to renew my Italian passport, and I have now my
new passport and the old password with a big "CANCELLED" writing on it.
However, the F1 visa is still on my old passport.
The Italian embassy lady told me that I can travel with both passports
and I shouldn't have any problem. However, she didn't seem very
confident and I just wanted to double-check.
Any insight?
Thanks,

Ya they maybe right. Because I have seen some friends doing it and
being Italian you should be least worried,

She is right. I have done it for years. Formally, the procedure is called
"VIOP" (visa in other passport).
There are a few conditions attached to it. Primarily, your old and new
passport must be of the same nationality (that is, if you had been
Brazilian, recently got naturalized in Italy, and lost your Brazilian
citizenship, your visa in the Brazilian passport would now be void).
Some people also say that all the personal details in your passport must be
identical (i.e., no name change due to marriage). I'm not sure if the
regulations actually say this, though.

If you "just graduated", your status as F 1 is probably no longer valid. The
D/S (duration of status) on the I-94 means just that. With the F 1 you also
need a valid I-20 to enter the US.
But maybe I'm missing something here.

Yes, you are right in the sense that I will not be able to re-enter the
US only with my F1 visa and EAD card. I also need a letter of
employment.
However, my EAD card authorizes me to work in the US until July 2006.
Therefore, if I find a job, I will be able to travel outside the US in
this timeframe. In that case, I didn't want to have a problem because
of the VISA on an expired passport.
Please let me know if you see any mistake in my reasoning.
